In typical Cold Chisel style, there’s a potpourri of ideas, sounds and genres across Blood Moon – from the chooglin’ boogie of the first single Getting The Band Back Together, which celebrates the weekend warrior in all of us (including the band), to the angry, visceral epic Killing Time, the high-speed oblivion of Drive, the crazed-carnival sounds of Boundary Street to Ian Moss’ soulful closer You Are So Beautiful.

The songs also came together in different ways – some were straight from the pen of Don Walker; Buried Treasure was the first songwriting contribution between Charley Drayton and Walker; and some tumbled out unusually: “In between our demoing and the recording, a friend of mine was reading Songs and he asked me about a handful of songs that had never been recorded or released, but were included in the book,” says Don. Two of those songs, “Boundary Street” and “Accident Prone” found their way, at the eleventh hour, onto Blood Moon. “They were songs I’d written many years before but hadn’t thought to submit. Through being reawakened to them, I tossed them in the ring and both of them stuck.”

Don and Jimmy also found a new way to work together. “Working with Don has evolved over the years,” says Barnes. “It was very intimidating when I first started writing with Don, in the earliest days of Cold Chisel. Don was writing ‘Khe Sanh’ when I was sort of scratching my head, trying to put three lines together (he laughs). In the past, when we’d write I’ve written music and Don’s written lyrics. It’s only in the last two years that the process has turned around. I think particularly since writing the two autobiographies I’ve found my voice as a writer and I think I’ve had the confidence to write and then to say ‘Hey Don, I’ve sent you some lyrics.’ I would send lyrics to Don and he’d say ‘It’s so great to have lyrics that I don’t have to anguish over.’”

The Barking Spiders, announce a special one-off gig in Sydney on Saturday, 28 December 2019.

Notorious mystery band, The Barking Spiders, have announced a special one-off gig at The Factory Theatre in Sydney’s Marrickville on Saturday, 28 December 2019.

Tickets go on sale at 9.00am tomorrow, Friday 6 December.

TICKET INFO BELOW

Some will be available online via Ticketek while the remaining tickets will all be bundled with special editions of Cold Chisel’s new CD, Blood Moon, in four Sydney music shops for those who get in fast.

Red Eye Records and Utopia Records in the city will each have some tickets as will Hum Music in King Street, Newtown and Beatdisc Records in Parramatta. These stocks are expected to sell out quickly so fans are strongly advised to be standing on the outside when the doors of these stores open to give themselves the best chance of attending this rare performance.

Barking Spiders Poster

The Barking Spiders myth and legend has grown deeper and darker over the years, despite the fact that the band has never entered a recording studio. Preferring to play small, semi-secret shows their one and only album – The Barking Spiders Live 1983 – has gone on to be hailed as an Australian classic.

Pundits have rumoured that The Barking Spiders are actually a famous band who originated in Adelaide in the 1970s but these rumours have never been confirmed. Both bands have consistently maintained a strict ‘no comment’ policy on this sensitive topic.

This web of insectival intrigue will likely be woven further at the intimate Factory Theatre on Saturday, 28 December 2019.

The Barking Spiders will be supported by Sydney post-punk outfit, 100, who have signed binding NDA agreements, preventing them from making any comment.

COLD CHISEL ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE AND ALBUM

TICKETS TO THE BLOOD MOON TOUR 2020

ON SALE NOW!

11AM (LOCAL TIMES)

NEW SE QLD SHOW ADDED!

There’s nothing more Australian than hot sun, warm waves and Cold Chisel. Their first ever outdoor summer tour is ON SALE NOW (11am local time), and the legendary rock outfit have just announced details of a new single and album which will be released upfront of the dates.

Fittingly, the lead track is called Getting The Band Back TogetherIt was written by the band’s main songwriter, Don Walker and, in the mode of Cold Chisel classics like Bow River and Saturday Night, the song sees Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes trading lead vocal lines. Getting The Band Back Together is released on Thursday, 31 October and will be followed before Christmas by a new album which, like the tour, is called Blood Moon.

The recordings were all created in Sydney in August and September this year, with the band’s long-time producer Kevin Shirley.

The album covers a lot of ground lyrically and musically”, reveals Don Walker. “’Getting The Band Back Together’ seemed like the right sentiment to accompany the tour but the album itself has a lot of songs that are darker than that, and a few quieter ones too. It’s great to still be making new music and finding new ways to do it after all these years”.

The band have also announced that due to a strong reaction to the first show announced for A Day on the Green at Queensland’s Sirromet Wines, a 2nd and final show has been added on Sunday, 9 February 2020.

Foodbank will be supported in various ways throughout the Blood Moon Tour 2020 including by way of special auction items and fundraising collections at each venue on the tour.

The Blood Moon Tour 2020 is presented nationally by Triple M and MAX in association with Foodbank.

Fans are reminded to only buy tickets by following the ticket links listed below. People who choose to ignore this clear advice and who instead use search engines like Google to find tickets typically get steered to unofficial reselling sites like Viagogo that often lead to rip offs.
