Making good on their promise of late last year, Cold Chisel have announced that they will return to Perth for a special one-off concert at Sandalford Winery, Swan Valley on Saturday, April 7, 2012. Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Monday February 27, with special advance ticket sales for Cold Chisel mailing list members, Zaccaria subscribers and MyTicketek.

When Cold Chisel announced their record breaking Light The Nitro tour in 2011 they were completely overwhelmed by the demand for tickets, ultimately selling out 36 shows across Australia and New Zealand and playing to over 275,000 people. However, due to the logistics of touring and geography, it was impossible for the band to add any more dates to their two shows at Margaret River and Belvoir Amphitheatre, both of which sold out in minutes. As W.A. fans pleaded for more, the band announced that they were committed to finding a way to get back to Perth in early 2012 and so today’s announcement delivers on that.

“We tried everything to make more gigs happen in W.A. last year but it just wasn’t possible,” said Cold Chisel’s frontman Jimmy Barnes. “We can’t wait to return and put some rock & roll into your Easter. We owe you one Perth!”

Bluesfest is excited to announce that COLD CHISEL will headline the 2012 event, with the legendary Australian band’s exclusive festival appearance closing the main stage on Thursday 5^th of April 2012. 

It will be the first time that an Australian artist has ever headlined this iconic musical event.

Bluesfest’s announcement is testament to the special place Cold Chisel’s music has come to occupy in Australian hearts and minds.

The band’s record breaking Light The Nitro tour is currently drawing to a close, with a final gig scheduled for Brisbane next Tuesday night. The tour has been the biggest ever by an Australian-based band; drawing nearly 300,000 fans across 36 huge shows. It’s also been unanimously hailed by critics and fans alike across Australasia.

Kathy McCabe of Sydney’s Daily Telegraph said, ‘Cold Chisel restore your musical soul on their Light The Nitro tour and reaffirm the power of music to not only define a culture but unify a nation’s identity.’ Cameron Adams of Melbourne’s Herald Sun agreed: ‘Cold Chisel remind you of the life-affirming power of a truly great live band. In addition to performing classics like ‘Forever Now’, ‘Khe Sanh’ and ‘When The War Is Over’, this special Bluesfest appearance will also see Cold Chisel premiere new songs from their forthcoming album. The as yet untitled collection of new tunes was recorded over the last 2 years – partly with original drummer Steve Prestwich and partly with new drummer Charley Drayton.

“Cold Chisel have generously agreed to donate and sign this guitar”, says concert promoter John Zaccaria. “We really hope concert patrons and the general public will get on board and bid furiously so we can raise a substantial amount of money. This will be an amazing piece of memorabilia for any fan.”

The auction will commence today, Monday November 28th from Midday (WST), 3.00pm (EDT) and will run until Thursday December 1 at 6pm (WST), 9.00pm (EDT).

The winning bidder and funds raised from the successful auction will be announced this Friday December 2, with funds donated directly to the Lord Mayors Distress Relief Fund which has been especially set up to assist victims of the fires.

A spokesperson for Cold Chisel said “the band has been saddened by the fact that so many people have suffered such serious losses in these fires. They hope that the show they played on Saturday night at the Sandalford Estate Margaret River helped lift some spirits, and the auction will help raise a few extra dollars for those who are doing it very tough right now.”

A meeting took place this morning between the promoter, Zaccaria Concerts, Cold Chisel’s management, and executives from the Shire of Augusta/Margaret River and Shire of Busselton. The local representatives unanimously requested that the show proceed despite this week’s tragic bushfires. The band and promoters therefore agreed to respect local wishes and will ensure that the concert goes ahead as originally planned.

Ray Colyer, Augusta-Margaret River Shire President, said that despite the bushfire devastation in the region of the last few days, the local community and businesses will welcome the concert. “We believe the concert will bring real positive emotional and economic benefit to the community here. Everyone wants this great event to go ahead, and we are all looking forward to it.”

The meeting between the stakeholders, which also included Gary Evershed, CEO of Augusta-Margaret River Shire, and Mike Archer, CEO of the Shire of Busselton, identified that the concert site is far enough away from the fire effected areas for there to be no safety concerns.

At the initiative of Cold Chisel and the concert promoters, and with the support of the local Councils, there will also be some additional fundraising activity at the concert.
All proceed from those efforts will go to the Lord Mayors Distress Relief Fund, to assist those affected by the fires.

The first of these various fundraising initiatives will be the auctioning of a special electric guitar which will be signed at the show by all the members of Cold Chisel. This auction will be open to anybody who cares to bid and further auction details will be posted on our site over the next 24 hours.
