COLD CHISEL‘s ‘Last Stand of Sydney’s entertainment centre’ show provoked a ticketing frenzy this morning. The 18 December concert at the iconic Qantas Credit Union Arena was completely sold out within minutes. And by lunchtime less than 2000 seats remained for their Thursday, 17 December show even though that second date was only announced yesterday.

COLD CHISEL released an initial allocation of December 18 tickets to their fan club on Wednesday, followed by a limited MyTicketek Pre-Sale on Thursday. The response to both was phenomenal – outstripping any on sale in the band’s history and leading to yesterday’s early announcement of an extra show on December 17. That second gig is now also expected to sell out completely over coming days.

This phenomenal result at Qantas Credit Union Arena actually outstrips demand for the band’s 2011 “Light The Nitro” concert. That tour went on to become one of the most successful in the history of Australian rock’n’roll with sales of over 300,000 tickets.

The band has been completely blown away by the fan reaction to these two special shows.

“I remember when we sold out the original Last Stand gigs at this venue back in 1983 but none of us ever imagined that so many people would still be queuing up for tickets over 30 years later”, said the group’s frontman, Jimmy Barnes. “We don’t take any of it for granted – we’re gonna reward all that faith with some killer gigs.”
